賴高山藝術紀念館
2000年,賴高山先生與賴作明先生父子秉承恢復台灣漆工藝之理念,將昔日漆工廠兼自宅改建為「台灣漆文化博物館」,提供大眾免費參觀,讓參觀民眾了解發源自台中的台灣漆工藝,介紹「樹漆」之特性及製作過程。賴高山先生師承日人山中公,於「臺中工藝專科學校」習藝,學習來自日本的雕刻技法與漆工藝,融合臺灣意象後稱為「蓬萊塗」,保送東京藝術大學深造,回台後開設漆工廠,也持續創作,並與友人創立「中部美術學會」、「東南美術會」等藝文團體。
Aiming to revive Taiwanese lacquer craft, Lai Kao-Shan and his son Lai Tso-Ming renovated their lacquer workshop and home into “Taiwan Lacquer Culture Museum” in 2000. The museum offers free admission. It introduces Taiwanese lacquer craft, which originated in Taichung, and presents the characteristics and the production process of “tree lacquer.”
Lai Kao-Shan learned Japanese craving skills and lacquer craft at Taichu Polytechnics School. His teacher was Yamanaka Tadasu, a Japanese craftsman who created “Penglai lacquerware,” a combination of Japanese lacquer craft and Taiwanese imagery. Lai’s outstanding performance allowed him to enter Tokyo Fine Arts School (today’s Tokyo University of the Arts) to further his studies. After returning to Taiwan, he opened a lacquer workshop and continued his creation, also founding arts societies such as Central Institute of Fine Arts and Southeast Fine Arts.

賴高山於2005年過世,其子賴作明先生為紀念其父對漆藝之貢獻,將「台灣漆文化博物館」更名為「賴高山藝術紀念館」。目前以賴高山先生生平事蹟、創作,以及台灣樹漆文化發展為主軸,不定期舉辦特展、漆器製作課程和體驗活動,將台中獨特的漆文化作為台灣特色,發揚光大。
Lai Kao-Shan passed away in 2005. Commemorating Lai’s contribution to lacquer art, his son Lai Tso-Ming renamed the museum “Lai Kao-Shan Art Museum.” Its current main themes include Lai Kao-Shan’s life and work, together with the development of Taiwanese tree lacquer culture. The museum also occasionally organized special exhibitions as well as lacquerware classes and workshops, to promote the unique lacquer culture of Taichung as a distinguished feature of Taiwan.
