In the spring of 1915, a group of 12 people including elder Gu Azhen brought the Sanenzhu incense from Leshantang (Yuemei Village, Shanlin District) to the residence of Gu Xifan to be worshipped, thus beginning the area's Luantang worship. In April 1917, temple followers purchased a piece of land surrounded by natural beauty and started developing it and constructing a thatched structure for the deity.

The next winter, the main hall was completed and named Guangshantang, being dedicated to "promoting benevolence by example". A horizontal building and lecture hall were built on the sides in 1922 and 1923 as the organization and regulations began to take shape. The rear hall, Yuqing Hall, was finished in November 1933 and served the worship of Yuhang Dadi. By this time, Guangshantang was more or less complete.

After World War 2, Guangshantang began investing in local constructions and started prayer and worship activities. From 1966 - 1985, the Great Blessing Sacrifice was established, becoming the local spiritual center. The rear hall Lingxiao Baodian was finished in 1996, being a lofty 3-story building serving the worship of Yuhuang Dadi, Buddha, and Bodhisattva. Yuqing Hall was changed to Wenchang Hall. During successive expansions and renovations, Guangshantang acquired various architectural features and folk religion characteristics, providing a clear record of the history of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism.
